Shopify Canonical Issues and How to Fix

Learn how to resolve the canonical issue on a website in Shopify.

Shopify is a great platform but it has a number of areas where it's not optimal for SEO. The canonical issue is one of them.

Shopify varies the product URLs when you browse via a collection.

They deal with this by using canonical tags to point to clean versions of the product URLs. But is it optimal? No.

There is a way of resolving this so that ALL of the products in ALL of the categories point to the correct URL?

I found and repaired 2 instances of the "within collection" code but still have the issue when navigating through the collections route.

I don't believe it exists in the most recent Dawn Theme update. Have you been able to locate it?

In my theme, the file is product--item.liquid in lines 93 and 106.

Man i follow the steps for my theme, but heck, it still shown me the /collection url instead the product

Seems like this is a Theme issue, if youre having this issue where you have to update code inside your theme, go and complain to the theme creator, go to the review and create a review letting the world know that the theme has a canonical issue they have yet fixed. We need to put pressure on the developers of the theme versus you doing it yourself. Otheriwse this problem will never fix.
