I bought a ton of Pokemon games from GameStop to see how many were repros. Here are the results!

Definitely the antiquated way of checking these for authenticity. Just lick the cartridge guys, if it tastes like new plastic it’s repo. If i tastes like Doritos, finger sweat and Capri-sun you know you’ve got yourself an authentic game.

Definitely need a part 2 where you open them all and counter verified. That would incredible to see the difference of stats between before opening and after opening. It would be great for the community

I realize it's a little annoying to open them up but I really think you should have for this video, no offense. Very tough to say on some of those carts, but looking at boards goes a long way, especially for those copies of Red. Plus you had already identified several fakes...kind of hard to trust anything without looking at the board. Also, the boards could have been swapped at some point. You just don't know without looking on such a heavily bootlegged game. Just my two cents.

I snagged a Fire Red cart off Gamestop a week ago and it was also legit. I know the guys at my local store can sniff out a fake from a mile away.

The best way is to literally open the cartridge, it's one screw and takes 20 seconds. Once opened you'll know straight away if it's real or fake.

I mean why make a video about how to spot a fake game and then say you aren’t sure on a few of them. Just open them up, you’ll tell in 10 seconds if it’s a genuine board.

So this is one of the reasons why GameStop doesn't have any available in stock on their website

I feel like this needed a deeper dive instead of just one or two things on each cartridge. There is a lot you can find out just from looking at the back of the cartridge, the Nintendo seal logo and the numbers on the back. Also looking into if the batteries are all dry would also be interesting to see what GameStop sends.

Caleb on all the see through carts look at the back top left. There should be 4 square pads together an the board on top left. So if the cart has the 4 squares it's real. Can't always go on the stamped numbers or the label. Label could be wrong but if the board has the 4 square pads it's definitely a real cb

Imo you gotta open them up and check the board dude. Tons of references online to compare fake to real boards

The flip was the best part of this one hahahahah love it. Nice work ! I could imagine this is going to be a big issue moving forward. Hope GS gets their SHT together.

Would the fake ones have the 4 square thingy in the back?

One of the best things I picked up recently is the manufacturing print isn't on fakes. The little stamping on the sticker. But pop open the cartridge and see. There is a very solid channel that does breakdown every way for each Pokemon cartridge to test if yours is fake.

For any cart that is see-through just look in the top right, If it has a battery it is real. There is also the pattern of the PCB on the back if you see four gold rectangles they're real. Overall though just using a gamebit to open them up and check is the best bet.

Gamestop should not be allowed to sell fake games. They should always confirm in advance.

You have to open the cartridge and check the board to see if it's legit. Checking plastic and stickers isn't enough

🤔 I'm surprised the majority of them were real since they're usually fake from gamestop

Makes a "How to spot fake Pokemon games" video. "I don't actually know which ones are fake."

Another nice way to spot copies is to look at the pins, Nintendo original cartridges will have the connection lined up closer to the motherboard while the fakes are normally all over the place

I didn't even know Gamestop sold old games, real OR fake!
