'Unprecedented' heat wave in western North America set to pass, but impacts linger

The heat wave hitting much of western North America, both in Canada and the U.S., has been called "unprecedented" by some as multiple cities break heat records, including the village of Lytton, B.C., which once again saw the hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada for the third-straight day on Tuesday, hitting 49.6 C.

South of the Canada-U.S. border, millions of Americans have been coping with abnormal temperatures, forcing tanker trucks to hose down drawbridges in Seattle, Wash. to ensure the mechanisms continue working, while roads are buckling in other cities.

The so-called "heat dome" sitting over the wide swath of provinces and states is expected to move east, but with both countries only in the beginning of the summer, Global News meteorologist Ross Hull cautions peak temperatures for the season have yet to be seen.

It is not "warmth" it is "oppressive heat"

Unprecedented. So what is there left to do but build back better?

Lytton almost tied Phoenix Arizona, America's hottest city, just slightly under by 1 degree Fahrenheit. That's _freaky_ to say the least. Greetings from 🔥Tucson Arizona ✌️. I know someone in Alberta. Stay safe.

Global, can you give Ross Hull a better microphone to record audio at home? It sounds like it was recorded by a webcam microphone, purchased from Walmart.

Nice. I can’t wait for the next decade. Every year is hotter than the previous. Infrastructure build 50 years ago never considered these temperature extremes. Kick you local climate change denier.

If people are not a little worried they should be. This may be a rare heat wave, but it could could be the start of us crossing the the tipping point. hard to say, but to laugh it off
is stupid. Nobody is going to take this seriously until it's gets VERY serious. At that point, it may be too late.
