Got my a8f yesterday and it's sooo good

I have run my 65” A9F through the ringers for the last week. Could I have opted for the 65” A8F and been satisfied, you bet. Do I think the extra $600 was worth the upgrade to the A9F, you bet. Luckily, I was able to see in person side by side. But, more important I was able to use my own video content for testing (regular DVD, Blue Ray, reg. 4K, 4K HDR10, 4K DV). I can’t tell the difference between HDR10 and HDRDV (maybe if I used the right movie?) But, in all cases there was a difference playing these formats between both TV sets. Both were great, but the A9F was truly flawless in my opinion . Not a hint of ghosting, and ZERO banding etc. The dynamic range is breath taking and just crazy remarkable. I think of all my test Blade Runner 2049 has some of the hardest to replicate from the theatre point of view with such extremes. I will watch 2049 from my living room any day over going to the movies again.

In reality most stuff you are going to watch on a 4K TV is not 4K content, at least for awhile. I assume it’s the new processor in the A9F, but the ‘uplifting’ to 4K, especially 1080p, is ridiculously well done. There is nothing like this on the market today and it was the game changer for spending the additional $600. One of the most classic and beautifully done movies, Lawrence of Arabia (highest resolution today is 1080p Blue Ray) in a theatre is a religious cinematic experience. Even on BR on the best non 4K, it doesn’t work for me. The A9F uplifted the BR version of Lawrence of Arabia almost back to its original. Breath taking. Can’t wait for the 4K HDR, I here they are working on it. But, the A9F ‘uplifting’ is magic and best on the market today.

The reviewer mentioned the new version of the ‘OREO’ operating system was smooth. Yes it is, very smooth and a joy to operate. But, I still choose to use the Apple TV 4K. Running regular TV shows in SD quality from Directv was a bit of a surprise. They actually look just fine and as you would expect, or at least hope for. SD didn’t degrade any, at least. I have seen some standard broadcast SD on some 4K TVs that are horrible. Streaming from HULU, YouTube, Netflix, PS Vue, Prime (from SD, HD and 4K) all work great on the A9F.

Lastly, the audio difference between the A9F and A8F, no comparison at all. The A9F is Superior with its 3.2 audio, period.

I did compare the A9F to top of line LG. In my opinion the LG was better overall than the A8F. But when it came to uplifting and banding, the A9F was the clear winner for my needs and preferences compared to the LG. Nothing like banding, of any kind, to ruin the experience especially at these prices.

Watching 4k TVs and trying to visually compare on YouTube just doesn’t work folks. You just have to believe what the presenter is seeing in person and telling you. You can’t duplicate the experience on your iPhone or iPad. Go to a specialty Audio/Video that sells and ‘demonstrates’ these new Master Series, bring your own content is my recommendation and put them to the test yourself. PS: bring your check book, as they use to say.

Thanks I already have the a8f and it is a really great TV. 🙂👍🏻 But I have a question to ask. Can I play playstation 5 games on it? Will I be satisfied with the image quality or do I have to buy a better TV? Because I am considering to buy a playstation 5.

I kind of like the af8 better. I like the stand better. I like the way the colors are rendered on the af8 as well. The af9 is brighter and supposedly the colors are better but for 800 bucks I am not sure.

A8f seems to have a better picture overall
But I noticed that when you stop the motion A9f has a more sharpeness image than the A8f
Some spots seems to be blurrier than the A9f when the image stops

Out of all the differences mentioned the most important for me is the Android version, which would make me lean towards getting the A9. But this is the only thing, and for the price difference between them it’s hard to justify getting the A9 over the A8.

I am planning to buy A9F but very much worried about new tech people still didn’t approved OLED as best panel has lots of issues to be solved other then just good black level, viewing angle. I am worried about built quality a $3400++ Display so premium has plastic and cheaper one everywhere at back. It is like u asked for a better display just get this nothing else. Sony ur research team doesn’t have any time on improving how a TV should be built not only what user will see pls
