Duplicolor Paintshop Clear Coat Review

A very quick review for the Duplicolor paintshop clear coat system. If you are ready to start a project with this, make sure you check out the video to be aware of the pros and cons with duplicolor. there are alot of cons with the duplicolor clear and i would not recommend this product for most projects. Enjoy.

I did my entire race boat, a 15' BAJA with the duplicolor paint shop deep blue. Sprayed it over a Nason 2K primer. Zero reaction and it adhered very well. I then sprayed 4 coats of USC 10 2K clear over it. Again, zero reaction and excellent adhesion. Cut and buffed the clear and it looks beautiful. Ran that boat hard last season and this season so far. Still looks beautiful, no problems even below the water line.

4:24 to make a quart of quality clear coat it’s going to cost you about $300 because you need to cut quality clear with either thinner, reducer etc and they are sold in quarts. So you’d need a quart of clear. A quart of reducer. A quart of hardener. And a few other things. It’s easy to get into the $500 range when doing larger projects.

What’s up with all the hate on lacquer paint? ( not just talking about duplicolor) 2k clear coat is already proven not to hold up. Look at cars from the 90s and 2000s that have been left untouched and the clear is flaking. That’s it’s only form of protection so it’s in need of a repaint. Compare that to vehicles built in the 50s/60s that have sat for a few decades, they usually buff out really well. “ I’d rather buff from sun fade, then repainting from flaking “

Any thoughts on Dupli-Color Crystal Clear General Purpose Acrylic Enamel? I bought it and so far having trouble. After buffing and polishing it is dull and all scratched up. Doing the same buff/polish on the same panel over factory clear, it turned out great into a mirror finish. And that's a 20 year old car.

115 to 150 per gallon x2 or 3. See you need to figure base coat clear coat or base candy clear. Comparison to my little Kia is 5k for a Gallon. Yes 5 k per Gallon that's the value of the car. At 15 years old the clear is peeling. So which one is best? I have my opinion and it is not 5k per gallon.

You have to cut and buff anyway with 2k or 1k clear

I used duplicolor red oxide primer in spots under gloss black basecoat then clear coat then sanded out orange peel and got red “pimples” all over. Anybody else?

I wish I would have saw this video prior to using. The clear came out totally matte finish. I have not cut/buff yet. I will not use this product again. Buyer beware.

Guys just be careful with the 2k though. Most of you don’t have the proper safety equipment to spray it at home. Hacking it together won’t cut it for your health either especially for anyone else in the house or your neighbors. Pro painters don’t wear hazmat looking suits and hoses running to their face just for fun…

Car was never polished. Just sanded with 1000 grit.
