Mytilini, the capital of the island of Lesvos, is a city built amphitheater-style at the southeast end of the island and spread over quite a large area. Around the southern port, many neoclassical buildings in the city reflect the pinnacle of design the island witnessed in the late 19th Century. The city is home to unique attractions such as the churches of St. Therapon and the Diocese which are of particular architectural interest, the Ancient Theatre, the Roman Aqueduct and many museums.
