Thanks for this video, and how to get around this issue which has been doing my head in for a while now not being able to use garageband on the older Mac I’ve had to go back to resort to using through hard times!!
For these issues I have just ended up using GB on my iPhone which has its limitations but I’m happy with the results I manage to achieve, having used GB, Logic & Cubase since the early 1990’s so have a wealth of experience which helps me to navigate problems you sometimes think aren’t possible using iPhone but more often than not I find a way to achieve the result I’m looking for. New Apple ID trick worked for us. I have an old Mac Book Air, its maximum iOS is 12.7.

Now I was able to download GarageBand. Thank you very much 😍

I have a MacBook Pro from 2009 and wanted a newer version of GarageBand. Latest OS version that is supported voor my Mac was 10.10 (Yosemite). I've managed to install Catalina using Dosdudes Catalinapatcher, but I didn't had my Apple Id connected with GarageBand, so I couldn't download GarageBand. Then I used the OpenCore Legacy Patcher to install Ventura. The are some major issues installing Ventura on a 2009 Macbook, since USB1 was no longer supported but with the use of a USB Hub, I could connect Mouse and keyboard and was able to download GarageBand. After that I've reinstalled Catalina and was able to download Garagaband again.
It works pretty well, but when I want to playback sound via my audio interface, after a while, there's a sort of chopping noise coming through. I can workaround it, but I do consider buying a newer Macbook.

Market incentive by Apple for users to upgrade or think they need to upgrade instead of using the tips you’ve provided to d/l and use GB and other apps on their older Macs. I’ve been using a 2015 MacBook Air without problems and still have no need to upgrade to a newer Mac.

I guess this is a good work around but do you think they are making it more difficult in order to force you into logic? I’m still in GarageBand simply because it’s free but I may have to go to logic at some point.

We have family sharing activated and I found garageband under my brothers profile who runs a newer Mac OS and had no problem installing it.

I purchased the iLife suite on CD back when you could, but can no longer find the CDs. Sadly, this purchase doesn't show up in the app store history :(

I have an MacBook Air 2019, and I can’t install macOS Ventura. But there it says that I CAN.
And also I have garage band on my iPhone 13 but when I put my iCloud on my Mac AppStore, the garage band is not there, on the purchase apps. GOD I’m getting pissed
