The husband is a hero. He escaped the fire only to go back in to save his dogs and try to save his wife. I hope he at least knew his dogs survived and he did the best he could to save his wife. Truly a heroic effort and admirable dedication to those he loved.

Alan was able to name his killer. He not only survived long enough to attempt to save his wife, to save his dogs, but also to tell the world who did this to him and his family. That is something that victims in these cases rarely get a chance to do.

Alan really is a hero. He put his own pain and safety aside for his family. I hope he had peace when he left this world, because he deserved that. He did all that he could and then some.
❤❤❤

Alan was incredible. So injured yet forced his way into an inferno. I'm sorry Carla died too but its particularly tragic that Alan fought so very bravely to save his wife & dogs but didn't survive. RIP Alan & Carla.

"Oh, sorry, I don't remember which leg I can't walk on" ... bright as blown lightbulb. RIP to a lovely couple.

This case is one that really hurts. Two innocent people burned alive by their very own son. Absolutely horrific is all that can be said. RIP.

He watched his stepdad run in to save his mother.... *_and held the door shut._* I actually felt my heart leap into my throat. I'm absolutely nauseated. I hate that I share this world with people like that.

Carla looked like someone who would put a piece of apple pie in front of you and comfort you through a bad breakup, the world is a slightly darker place without them. RIP.

What a psychopath. You can tell he bullshited his way through his entire life by the fact that he thinks he can lie his way through an interrogation as unprepared as that, even messing up what leg is hurt

Anyone who lies about having cancer is so dispicable as a person it's mind numbing. That alone tells you everything you need to know about the kind of person Richard is.

With each case i've become more and more aware of how many people are traumatized by these crimes, other than the murdered people. Like this one. The neighbor who had a burnt, bleeding man show up on their porch, the grandkids left without grandparents, the wife who will find out she practically is living with a stranger and is in debt. Other family and friends. Not to mention the fireman, cops and whomever else had to witness the mother being burnt to death or the medical staff who did the treatment of the burnt man. Cops and attorneys that have to keep reviewing the horrible photographs. Etc. It's just so much bigger than the crime itself.😢

The fact that he held the door so his stepfather couldn't get out is just so horrific. This dude is a greedy monster and an idiot. He couldn't even remember which leg was supposedly injured.

I like the way the detective had to more or less prompt Rich to be sad. And the dramatic disabled shuffling to his seat; gingerly keeping his leg straight at first, then forgetting his injury.
Oh Rich. Your name is pure irony.
Fabulous as ever Mike. Thank you

Alan was a true hero. To do all that whilst gravely injured, shows what a brave soul he had. What a contrast to the evil stepson.

As someone who has used a cane for near 10 yrs, you need a cane MORE on uneven ground such as grass. It is more unpredictable how your foot will fall so support or catching is necessary

Ok I can’t even imagine the terror and utter hell that poor man went through in those horrifying moments not being able to get to his wife. I pray to all that is holy that his body shut off the excruciating pain he would undoubtedly have as a potential survival mechanism. I’m so sorry to these people for what they went through and to their surviving loved ones who have to live in the aftermath of such an unbearably horrible loss and disgusting act. Sometimes the reality of such depravity and utter disregard some people seem to have for other’s lives just overwhelms me.

Edited to add a thank you to Mike for his great talent at creating these videos. They give the victims such respect and also a voice.

This was my friends first day on the job as a firefighter in Dundas. I worked the next day thankfully. What a chaotic scene, very sad. Apprently the fathers last words to the neighbors was "it was Rich, he did it for the money"

Dude jumped out a window dropping 10 feet, able to knock on his neighbours door and tell her that his stepson did it, all while with burns. Burns bad enough to kill him hours later. Wtf. That's actually crazy. Even for a young, fit dude. Adrenaline must've really kicked in for him. I swear even most younger guys wouldn't be able to fight through that.

When he said 3rd degree burns over 95% of his body, I thought it was an exaggeration. Clearly, it wasn't if he ended up dying to his injuries. That's actually so sad. He did all that, trying to save his wife and dogs, and doesn't survive in the end. That's messed up.

I can’t imagine EVER HURTING my parents for any reason whatsoever, let alone, least of all, MONEY! CRAZY!
