Can't you use the "screen" commmand and do the same thing? Detach with "ctrl+a+d" and re-attach with "screen-x"? Plus it comes pre-installed with linux from the start.

I discovered tmux ~10 years ago and never looked back. it's a daily use tool on all my linux based machines and servers. Similar to screen, but i like tmux so much better. it is awesome

i always convert the escape sequence to crtl a ... screen has spoiled me ... but i like how you can create bash scripts that will set up a full tmux environment including split panes ... its a charm when you have a complex project and need to control multiple environments.

Honestly, screen is sweet but have you ever used tmux windows? Not split screen but windows you can switch between, it’s a must have if you are using a terminal without tab support or ssh. The scroll feature is also a must have. Especially on real tty s

Try adding the command screen infront of any other command you want to run. Then to exit it prest Ctrl A+D
The enter the screen again type Screen -r and you will see a list of screens running. then again type Screen -r and then the screen id and boom you are back on your running command. Screen is included in most linux no need to install anything. thank me later

I use GNU Screen it is good for holding sessions when I go suspend 😁. It is enought for me :-)

I use tmux to keep a Minecraft server alive when I'm disconnecting from the server. Normally a disconnect = server goes poof. Now it keeps running and running. Love tmux!
