Kamala Harris's vice-presidential pick, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Donald Trump's running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, will face off in their first -- and the only -- vice presidential debate on October 1, ahead of the November 5 election.
Tim Walz has had a long political career but was largely unknown to voters outside of Minnesota. He gained national attention after being chosen by Kamala Harris as her running mate and joining the Democratic ticket during the Democratic National Convention, which took place from August 19 to August 22.
JD Vance, Trump's running mate and author of "Hillbilly Elegy", was elected to the US Senate in 2022 and sworn into office in January 2023, just two years before being selected as Trump's running mate.
