JD Vance v Tim Walz: Key moments from the CBS News Vice Presidential Debate

JD Vance’s microphone was muted by moderators during Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate as he clashed with Tim Walz over immigration.

In a string of barbed attacks, the Republican vice presidential candidate accused Kamala Harris of opening the “floodgates” at the US-Mexico border and allowing “fentanyl into our communities at a record level”.

Mr Vance also downplayed Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election and his role in the Jan 6, 2021 Capitol riot during which his supporters delayed the certification of Joe Biden’s victory.

In an apparent gaffe, Tim Walz claimed he had “become friends with school shooters” during the vice-presidential debate against JD Vance.
