Don't forget about the Navy's NWUs or "blueberries" because even though they don't need a camo pattern they didn't want to be left out.

In words of Zach Hazard: "UCP stands for Universal Camo Pattern because it universally doesn't blend with shit except that photo of the couch"

What I love more is it the Marine Corps fucking copyrighted it so that the army couldn’t fucking use it

Brings to mind an interview where the guy said, "The US Marines look like they are hunting while the US Army looks like they are playing"

It got really popular in the civilian world because it stands out, something that no camouflage should be good at.

Nailed how infuriating this is. They’d take us out to the field then get livid when we got grass stains on our uniform pants. Like bro

That pattern only worked on North Fort at JBLM if you were standing in a treeline, in dense fog, and only between 0300-0430 and you had to do the hip rotation while calling Cthulhu in the old language.

The best part is that UCP wasn’t even in the running, SMA basically said “fuck your trials, I want pixels dammit.”

Just the amount of Dress Uniforms the Army has gone through is enough to make my head spin ! The USMC cracked the code decades ago and never looked back .

You missed the part where UCP wasn't even a contender being tested to begin with and right at the end some general just said, "Nah, I like this one more."

I saw another video about this. They claimed the US Marines pattern worked brilliantly and they slapped a patent or copy right on it to stop anyone else using it. The army had to create their own version and after various patterns were tested the brass ignored the results and went with an inferior design (my guess is someone got a back hander to use a certain company).

Marines since day 1 always had the coolest and most Patriotic uniforms.

The funny thing is when they were trying to "improve" UCP with that added tan/brown a bunch of companies jumped the gun and bought a bunch of it and it never got adopted.

When I was a Firefighter the liner for my gear was in UCP-D because Globe/MSA was one of the companies that bought a bunch and they needed to get rid of it somehow.

Being an active marine myself I’d love to hear more about the history of the usmc marpat. Thanks for sharing!

The best part about UCP is the only thing it blends in with is Grandma's couch.

Roger that, USAF too. After the USMC had to be different, every branch wanted to do the same. The AF was like; “Hey let’s develop a tiger-striped version of the Army’s uniform, but maintain the winter-weight material (but call it all-weather) and retain the BDU cut.” Only to turnaround and go with the exact same OCP uniform the Army ultimately chose.

All they had to do was get a camo that matched with Afghanistan’s environment which is tan lmaoo

That woodland camo was awesome. Wore it most of my time in the Corps up until the end (and even then our new camo kicked ass)

What's really funny is that studies after they started issuing the AC you figured out that the pattern was so recognizable that it acted more like a hunters orange vest than camouflage in that it was so recognizable that it drew the eye basically jumps out at you like the silhouette of a head and shoulders
