This video shows the Soil Mechanics numerical problem, that how we solve the unknown parameter in soil mechanics.

A saturated sand sample has a dry unit weight of 18 KN/m3 and a specific gravity of 2.63. Find the water content of soil if unit weight of water is 10 KN/m3.

A well is dug in a clay formation surmounted by a sandy formation. The upper level of the clay layer is 5 m from the ground. The water level in the well is 10 m from the ground surface. The thickness of the argillaceous aquifer is 12m. It is assumed that no rise in water by capillary action is recorded at the higher levels of the water table.

1- A soil sample was taken at a depth of 10 m. Its total mass and volume were measured as well as the mass of the solid grains, which are 140g and 65 cm respectively, is 130g. Give the degree of saturation. We give: g = 9.81 m / s, the density of water is 10 kg / m, the density = of solid grains is 2.7.

2- Another sample at a depth of 6 m gave a weight of 18 KN / m. Give its specific gravity if it is saturated with water.

3- Calculate the effective stress in a plane located 12 m below the ground surface. The water content in the aquifer is estimated at 54% The density of clay is estimated at 21 KN / m, that of sand is estimated at 19 KN / m

4- Calculate the settlement of the clay layer due to a pillar of a projected bridge which will weigh 3800 KN. The clay layer is estimated to have a cedometric modulus of 2.4 MPa.

5- Calculate the time necessary for this layer to reach a degree of consolidation of 45%. The coefficient of permeability of this layer
