Should Christians Study Other Religions??

Is it wise for Christians to study what other religions believe? If not, WHY NOT? Listen to this excerpt from @celebrationchurchya Podcast called "Beyond Thursdays".

I totally respect the point of view. There is something about the idea of not studying other beliefs as a way to not doubt that rubs a little. I am not sure protecting faith from doubt is a principle that ultimately produces strong and enduring faith. Doubt is actually a key ingredient of faith or else it stops being faith.

I am also not sure about the analogy of currency. The primary reason, which you alluded to, that the real thing is studied is because tactics of counterfeiters are constantly changing. By the time you learned all about one, it will change. You study the real one because it is stable. As it relates to the big 3 religions, they have been amazingly stable in basic doctrine over time, and makes it fundamentally different than studying counterfeit money.

Jesus said he is the way, TRUTH, and life…. Any earnest pursuit of Truth will lead to him.

That’s understandable.

Personally, I have studied a few religions for me to realize how merciful God is. But I can understand how it can be a slippery slope, especially in regards to newer religions.

I know something about other religions because non-Christians talk about their beliefs when I talk to them about Christ, but that is not the same as studying other religions.

Wow you are on point i have never thought of it that way, you have opened my eyes to an extent, if i may ask, what do you do when it is not about religion in a way but has an effect somehow on religion, like studying evolution

I disagree. The “faith comes by hearing” has nothing to do with studying other religions. I study other religions in order to point out the errors in them. You’d really have to be a babe in Christ to be fooled by other religions. What about apologists that debate other religious leaders and defend Christianity?

There is truth in this video. One should not poison their mind with other false religions / beliefs . One must be spiritually grounded and be a pillar of the one true Faith, for there can only be one true Religion. Don't be deceived and or believe someone that claims to be a Christian either. One should always question who is their one and only God they Worship in order to find out if they are a Christian . You are not a Christian unless you believe in the Holy Trinity as the one true God. Although there can only be one true Religion there is also only 3 religious groups that are Christians. 1) Catholics 2) Orthodox 3) Protestants. If anyone asks to pray for you and dose not believe in the Holy Trinity as it being the one true God, walk away from them.

Answers in genesis teaches apologetics through a biblical worldview. If you aren’t putting on the armor of God when learning what others believe, then it can be a problem. Some people have the gift of evangelism and when you have the right questions to ask, it’s helpful. You should guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus in all things. If you’re in Christ, you’re in the world not of it.

i appreciate this and understand this point but i’m curious as to how we may be able to witness to others if i’m just saying what’s true and they’re say what they believe to be true? like how can i convince them that i’m right if i’m not educated on what they believe

I hear wat you say, but to further understand the lies in other religions so you can effectively preach the GOSPEL to them, you've got to learn about the religion, why do we think Paul said we should study to show ourselves approved? You will fall for the lies of the false religions if you never had the HOLY SPIRIT living in you, I mean HE is already there waiting to lead us through all truth. Paul study about the people He was sent to, what the worshipped and believe in, that again made him very effectively debating with the people.

lol, the willing ignorance🤣 went to a service with my family because they were honoring high school seniors and my niece was graduating and they played this as “words of wisdom” for those teens. For any kids who happen to read this, educate yourself. You can read and study things without siding with the ideas. Don’t be dumb for Jesus
