Pretty sure you are using a WS2811 strip there? (not a ws28112b) Those older generation ws2811's had that "groups of 3" limitation, but use 12V, which makes more sense for longer runs.

Thanks for the video. There is not much info out there specifying how to power arduino after uploading the code. Everyone always skips that step. In my case it will help me power 12v pc fans with a 12v 1amp and also powering the arduino. I'd hate to have two separate power supplies for a simple design. (Newby here)

This is a wrong title used for the video, he is using a WS2811 which runs on 12V. The WS2812B LEDS will fry when using 12V, be aware

Thank you SO much for actually physically showing how you hooked up that power supply

Would it be the same diagram if i’m going to use a 12v battery?

after spending hours on YouTube i thought i should get the 5v instead of the 12v i have, thanks for this helpful video

So I can't use a 12v power supply on the 5v of the WS2812B? I was thinking of getting a 12v power supply because my WS2812B isn't capable of putting out all white on the LED's.

Great video. Just a quick question. I am working with a WS2815 strip which is 12v. My understanding is that the Arduino pin output is 5v. So, it appears that the LEDs data channel can be 5v and it still works. My preference is to use an ESP32 where the output pins are 3.3v. I can step them up to 5v as I have done with the 5v strip I use, but wasn't sure if it needed to go all the way to 12v for the data pin with this strip.

Your assistance is much appreciated.

Wrong strip info here, these are NOT WS2812B....they are WS2811. Definitely bad info.

Hey, so, basically I can also power my arduino with the 12V and just draw current driectly from the power supply to the strip?

finally an easy explanation, thank you for this!

and of course I did connect the 12V when powered with the USB... I almost blew up my laptop, that needed a motherboard reset. The arduino is RIP

Won’t the 12v signal fry the arduino even though it’s only the ground and data pins are connected, should I put a resistor before I connect the ground to the arduino?

I have 2 5M 12V LED Strips and I am going to wire it up your way, using a 12V 40A power supply, am I going to be good?
