This was a great tutorial. I really like the WS2815 strips. I've found that an ATX power supply from a PC will also work as a great LED power supply in a pinch.

To power on the ATX power supply outside of a PC, you'll need to utilize pins 15 (Black) and 16 (Usually Green)

You can use a small piece of wire to 'jump' the two slots on the 24 pin connector to power on the power supply.

If you use the 'jump' method, I recommend jumping to two slots BEFORE you plug in the power supply to avoid blowing fuses and sparking.

Or, you can do what I did and get a pin pusher to push the pins out of the 24 pin connector, then put a basic, single pole, switch between pins 15(Black) and 16(Usually Green), or simply twist the two pins together and use the power cable to power on the supply.

The yellow wires are 12 V, the Red wires are 5 V, and the Orange wires are 3.3 V.

All of the black wires are ground.

There are tons of online tutorials on using unused PC power supplies for bench top projects. These power supplies provide a ton of available watts for long lengths of LED strips.

With having multiple yellow, red, and black wires, you can power 12V and 5V LED strips at the same time using one supply.

Have fun everyone and be careful out there. God Bless! 👊

I have to say that every video you published is awesome. I now have a guide on how to set up my lights in my home lab. Great job 👍

Hi Chris, thanks for your video!
Can you tell more about "Enable automatic brightness limiter" and why do you unselect this option?

Great video. I'm planning on doing 2 zones with a total of approx. 30m in length, my supplier sent me a few options for LEDs .
WS2811 / 5v
WS2815 /12v
WS2811 / 24v
Can't wait to see more of your tests, narrow down my choices.

I eneded up using the WS2815s 60LEDs/m for my permenant christmas lights and they are great. You gotta pull the trigger since you are the king of RGB lights

FYI professional always use 24v strips - longer runs and more reliable binned LEDs. But what you do is perfectly acceptable and COOL! Keep it up

When can we get that power source comparison video. I am about to take on a project and want to know what source to use to not be overkill but not be to small. Over all I will be doing two 5m strips for under and above cabinet lighting.

Sorry why is the blue backup data get plugged to ground? Otherwise I’ve just plugged green and blue data wires together for the first data point.

Hang on... how are you powering a 5 meter strip of 60 LED/meter WS2815 lights with a 12v 5A power supply? The BTF websites specs say that each led draws 0.3 watts of power and on a 5 meter strip thats 300 x 0.3 = 90 watts. Am I missing something? Are those actually 30 LED/meter? I'm trying to connect four of these together in parellel and power them accordingly but now I'm worried my wattage is way to the high with the power supply I have in mind.

Do you have any videos showing a way to intergrate wled controls or triggers either via a physical button or another sensor?

Can I test this without the controller first? Ie if I only plug in the power to the led driver? I’m finding only a few blue lights come on.

Or should I solder all the wires first and then test
