Years ago, I went to a supplement store to buy some whey. While browsing, a saleslady told me that I can get abs if I take this supplement. I just smiled at her, got what I was looking for, and left. Today, I still laugh at the idea that a bunch of tablets can magically make a 6-pack pop out. Then I feel sad knowing someone, somewhere is a dude who believed that crap and bought it.

I worked at a GNC and loved helping people and actually knew a lot about most the stuff we sold. I stopped working there because I hated being told I had to sell a certain amount of a specific brand and had to sell people memberships nonstop. I love your no BS content keep it up!

Unfortunately a lot of customers expect you to know more than you should. Most of the people working there probably just got their first job out of highschool and idiots asking them scientific questions about the efficacy of a supplement. They don't know lol

This is spot on Sean!
I worked in a pharmaceutical store where the Pharmacist was the one to tell customers everything about any product. And guess what? Pharmacists didn’t know much about what certain protein supplements and fat burners were good for.
However I did. I personally helped customers pick the right product. Like this one guy came to me asking to get him a protein powder that would help him burn more body fat cuz his exercise was seeming useless for him. Actually before me he went to Pharmacist and the Pharmacist told him to just take some green tea fat burner pills.
Then he just casually asked me and I asked him if he was in caloric deficit and he didn’t even know what that was. I then explained to him the whole science behind caloric deficit being the key to losing bodyfat along with keeping high protein levels and how he should not just do cardio alone but focus more on strength training and cutting down his calories by 200-300 calories instead of taking fat burner.

And guess what? The dude didn’t trust me and just bought the fat burner. I bet you he’s still stuck at same weight if he’s continuing this practise.

Actually as, a former Vitamin Shoppe employee, I can say that once I was hired I did go through a 2 week training period about the products and was tested. We also had to pass a test on what we could and could not say about our products. For example you can’t say that a vitamin will cure anything.
