How to Monitor Sea Turtle Populations Lunchtime Symposium
Показать описание
Understanding the Population Dynamics of Loggerhead Turtles in Amvrakikos Gulf, Greece
George Glen, Ph.D. student, Biology
As scientists we are forces to estimate various life-history parameters from incomplete data; for instance, how do we estimate a sea turtle's population size when for most of their life they are hidden beneath the waves? For females, we can count nests on a beach, but for males and juveniles, we rely on in-water projects focused on foraging grounds like Amvrakikos. This talk will discuss how to monitor turtle populations to better understand growth rates, migratory habits, and the connectivity of foraging and nesting populations and how you can partake in this once in a lifetime experience.
