How To Give an ICU Nursing Shift Report

This is how I give shift report while working in the CVICU! For all newer or aspiring nurses in critical care, you got this!

Loved it. I'm starting CVICU in a month and I'm ready for the challenge. I worked a Post Acute Medical unit and I loved it, had to leave when I went back for my RN. I wish I knew to have a basic run through of the same steps as you described here, because I was all over the place but I hit every component. Ty and you should be a NP.

You have to memorize all of this about your patients each day and then give a verbal report? Why? Isn't this general info in the chart that the next shift nurse can read? I can understand giving them info about what happened that day, but their whole history including allergies? Oh my, lol. I don't know if I can remember all of that about multiple patients, which can change, every day. Scared now, lol.

You are so right doing it the same way each time. Head to toe is what I try to do. And of course stickie notes are my best friend till I can chart🤪🤪🤪🤪
