I just recently found this channel, so I'm a bit late to the conversation. I've always loved series TV and book series way more than one-off books or films. I love love love the character development you get with series storytelling. I think this way of writing and releasing your work to your followers makes sense for people who love digging into characters and their backstories as well. It's not that different from comic book series/graphic novels. Readers also love looking for Easter eggs and trying to figure out if/how all your stories in your verse are connected. This way of storytelling makes creating those fun little scavenger hunts so much easier. This is very exciting! Glad I found your channel, Sir! 👍👏✌😎

I would love for shorter fiction to catch on. I personally love novellas and shorter novels. I was just talking to my daughter about this yesterday. My stories tend to land in the 30k-45k range and that hasn’t really been possible for me. If I stretch to “novel” length they tend to be slower and I like to write “snappy” stories.

Plus with series being so popular it would fun to play in the sandbox of a world with shorter fiction works.

I would love to do a short novella or two a month in a series and just play in that world. Then release several volumes of collections.

I like the idea of short fiction becoming a new trend, specially if "release per volumes" also become a thing like it's with Light Novels. Dunno about a day, but having a new book each month would be like a dream.

This was a great video. You gained a follower from me.

One thing that really stuck out to me is I specifically remember when the cursed child came out and there was tons of internet buzz about how while the cursed child was an “interesting” story, a book or books about the founders or more history on the earth creation of the school would have been more successful. So I agree that these types of short form content are going to be more digestible to larger audiences.

That would be epic if short fiction caught on! I heard romance readers are open to it but I wasn't sure how the speculative readers would feel about it outside of the magazines and such. I imagine a lot of people are short on time and resources these days so that segment would be happy to have something they can read in a short time or while doing a task. I like the idea of bundling them together which would be wonderful for print releases.

This concept sounds more like the idea of Japanese web novels, where you're purchasing a chapter. This could get conceivably expensive for someone that reads epic fantasy.

This is really cool :). I was thinking about the same trends that You talk about in this video. Mainly short form and lore. :) Amazing!

I'm actually working on an original collection of short stories/poetry involving mythology (Greek, Egyptian, Norse & Celtic). I've finished the poetry but I'm having trouble on the short stories.

Novels have shrank. Back in my day, unless it was NaNoWriMo, a novel was no less than 60K, a novella was capped off at 40K. Times have indeed changed. I know some people who still enjoy chunky books, but sadly, they're a dying breed. I write fantasy where a 100K is considered a good starting point.

I'm enjoying Sudowrite, thankfully there are some workarounds for doing a higher word count book. I have to agree that 10K is not a book unless you do a chapbook. When I buy a book, if it's a novel, I hope for at least 60K. Novellas 20K-40K.

I do enjoy anthologies. You can totally write a short story in a day, or even a novella. I'm sure if you want to do a 60K+ novel, you could pull it off. Especially if you have a system dialed in.

Years ago, I remember when Sean Platt and Johnny B. Truant wrote a book in a month, from scratch to publication, and they wrote a book about it. We all thought that was insane, and inspiring. Now, a month is an eternity, lol. And I think their novel they wrote in the month was around 80K, and fully edited.

What is yur motivation for doing this? Writers usually like to write. What's the point of getting a computer to write for you? I don't understand. Is it a money making scheme? A hustle? What is the reason?

By the way, i noticed you used the premium chat gpt. Were there any distinct differences in terms of quality of the responses given between free and premium? What are some of the prompts you usually use on a daily basis to help you with the creative process?

I do not buy into the ai copyright laws. AI is a tool just like photoshop (which itself has ai codeded into it).

If I use ai to help me with writing or art it is mine because the idea came from me.

It would be interesting to know how many copies you sold so far. Cheers

Isn't this old becoming new again? (still in infancy to listen to this video). the smaller books and serials are becoming more popular right? Light novels have long been a thing as well. then you get the bigger omnibus type novels. Granted as you say long form is still there, but this is more popular again....

So basically you have to write short fiction. However, you could write each chapter as a short story in a story arc each day and finish the novel in a week.

When you are advocating shorter version, why then are you spending so much time on your opening comments
