HP 54601A Oscilloscope Repair Restoration

The calibration memory on these scopes isn't that important they are fully capable of self calibrating themselves and it wouldn't hurt to run the self cal yourself after getting one. The process is in the user manual. All you need is a BNC cable to run from the rear calibrator to the front BNCs and a single 10X probe. The process is clearly outlined in the user manual under self calibration and is completely hands off connect the cable or probe to the proper points hit a button and wait for the process to finish.

These thankfully are not like those horrible Tek scopes that require specialist calibration equipment built by Tektronix to recalibrate them if the BBSRAM dies.

If you happen to be in the market for these I'd look for a Megazoom model like the 54645D and 54645A as they have 4M of sample memory. The non Megazoom models like this one are only really usable for repetitive signals.

I aquired one of these several years back. Only ever used it a couple of times and recently got I got interested in using it again. Mine is a 54600A, that has only two inputs.
Got her on the bench and to my supprise it still goes and works fine. I think i may do as you did with the full recap aswell. Did you know this has tesris game built int?

i just bought a cheapie hp 54600b. the re capping is no problem but does this mean im screwed since the rom and dallas? couldnt i just buy a new dallas or do they all have to be programmed? i have no way of doing this

If some one made that cap smell in a woman's perfume or man's cologne, i'd buy it. That and cut PCB smell.
