Acura mdx 2011 - sunroof wont close

Having issues with the sunroof -- won't close sometimes when slightly open.

Note: I have taken it to Acura a few times. The only thing they've done to try to 'fix' it is clean the area around the sunroof which doesn't fix it. I had them look at this issue about 4 times with NO fix. The last time i had to pay the diagnostic rate with no outcome. I'll post this to Acura on twitter and see if they have anything for us.

Found a fix for those looking. With doors unlocked, insert your key into the lock and turn the key left once to lock the doors and a second turn will close the sunroof and windows. If your porpblem is a faulty switch, it will override the switch and close the sunroof. You will still need a new switch. It wont work if your motor is bad but this problem in the video is due to the switch and this should work.

I had the same problem. My rubber seal around the sunroof is dry and cracked, and I had left the roof tilted overnight on a humid day. I fixed it by applying grease around the whole seal and using a plastic putt knife along the front of the sunroof to make sure it was not sticking here. After some careful work, it did finally close. I hope this helps someone. I would caution to be gentle with the seal and using the plastic putty knife to not damage the rubber seal.

I had the exact same problem as the video, in a 2010 MDX. 

My Fix: I inserted the key into the driver's door. I clicked the key to the left once and then clicked it to the left for a second time (this activates the sunroof). This did close the roof, however, it just opened up again. So what I did next was bump-clicked-it (mini adjustments) until it closed.

12 MDX with same problem. It is a an known issue from Acura. The rubber gasket seal around the window gets hard and prevents the sunroof from closing. Unfortunately they told me you have to replace the whole glass as they dont sell the gasket around the glass separately. $800. I was 2 months out of warranty. I told them to close it and i wont use it. IMHO Acura quality is slipping, They replaced my transmission at 50k miles, side mirror motor,

use to have this issue on my MDX. if you click a little at a time it would close.

Did you fix it? Mine is doing something similar when I try to close it. It closes 95% of the way and then backs up to half open

I didn't realize anyone responded to this. I have never been able to fix it. I went to 3 Acura dealerships with no luck. They all say the sunroof is dirty and one put extra lubrication on there. Nothing fixed it. My MDX is garage kept.

When this happens I fully open the sun roof. This can also take a few times but happens faster than closing it. Once it's fully opens it always closes properly.

I'll try again with Acura next time I need something done. Now that my MDX is out of regular warranty(its still under extended) i have to pay for them to diagnose it.

I tried getting in to the car, put the keys and was holding the Sunroof button. It opened completely. Then tried closing and it worked.
