Rediscovering: Anne of the Thousand Days (1969)

It was over 400 years ago that Henry VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn, was executed and 50 years ago that they released Anne of the Thousand Days, the film we are taking a look at this week.

Directed by Charles Jarrott, it stars Richard Burton as Henry and Genevieve Bujold as Anne, also starring Michael Hordern and Anthony Quayle.

Genevieve Bujold is splendid and the music of Georges Delerue is gorgeous and wonderful. One of the best soundtracks ever written for a film

I've watched so many versions of Anne Boleyn. The Tudors show was really appealing but this movie... omg. I love how Ms. Bujold played her - so much defiance and fire so that her softness was so much more lovely and delicate. I just love this movie. It was amazing and so well made. Even now 2021 - I still love watching this movie.

They got a lot of it wrong, 1. Henry had red hair, not dark, Catherine of Aragon and Princess Mary also had red hair, also, after she was banished, Catherine never saw her daughter again. Genevieve Bujold, was a splendid Anne, no one has ever played the part as well since.

Despite of the fact that Henry had reddish hair and Burton didnt, he (Burton) still made the best actor to ever play this role. And Genevieve will be my first fav Anne always. Best actors! Direction was also very good, i loved this film.

It might have been̈ better for all concerned if Catherine had granted him a divorce and the act of supremacy wouldn't have had to be signed ! I dont know why Burton hated the movie he was good though he overacted,
