It's very simple. THE SOIL MATTERS.

Plant 10 different (same) plants in different environments- light/no light, tropical vs dry, good dirt, bad dirt, on grass, in a hanging basket, in sand, etc., 100% certain that all 10 (same) plants will thrive differently. Some will die quickly. Some will do great.

Your GUT is the metaphoric soil. Ensuring that your GUT, Mitochondria and overall health will be best able to maximize your ability to utilize nutrients is key. Provide the needed fertilizer to allow the garden of your health to thrive. Also just as important- avoid the bad stuff. I guess you can tell- I am gardening this week and doing some planting.

THE SOIL MATTERS!

The more I learn about nutrition the more confused I get, especially regarding fats/carbs & fasting and their role in insulin resistance and diabetes. Everything is bad but also good at the same time.

Great information! Time-line gels contain sunflower lecithin oil… how do we feel about that?

Regarding the JAMA article "Effect of Urolithin A Supplementation on Muscle Endurance and Mitochondrial Health in Older Adults" you failed to mention their conclusion, "These results showed no significant improvement with urolithin A supplementation compared with placebo. No statistical differences in adverse events were observed between the 2 groups." Given that this study is small, 66 participants, any conclusion is suspect. And, given that most medical research has a 5-year half-life, I'm going to start using placebos. They are cheaper and seem to be just as effective as Urolithin-A. I really like your work Thomas, but you need to mention these types of conclusions.

Thanks for teaching about beneficial fruits. Another to consider is mangosteen, native to Southeast Asia. Mayo Clinic did an arthritis study about anti-inflammatory effects of bioactive compounds called xanthones in mangosteen. I was first alerted to this by a firsthand anecdote- my patient who appeared to be half his age. I asked what he attributed his youthfulness to- he said he was raised in Viet Nam and his family frequently ate the whole mangosteen fruit, including the not-so-sweet pit. This guy was about 44 years old, but seriously appeared to be about 28 years old! Turns out, xanthones also have anti-cancer properties.

Thomas, try fermenting the pomegranate juice in the carton to remove the sucrose plus fermented juice is a good pro biotic. I include the peel with the seeds when i blend them for the juice to enrich the factory pressed juice which is just 12% fruit, i do fret there might be chemicals on the peel tho'.

Acetyl-L-carnitine is not bad it reduces cell damage and lowers glucose if you have inflammation you will have high ALCAR as a response not a cause it is also transports fat to the mitochondria for fat burning

The softgels are $125 for a month supply, oh my. I just can't do it. It's too expensive even just to give it a try.

I wonder if drinking pomegranate juice has the same affect. I believe they are all pasteurized and I don't know if that negates some of the benefits.

What about the pure pomegranate juice? I can’t eat the seeds

The only studies I will consider are those coming from the New England Journal of Medicine. To get studies in others you really just have to pay them and they’ll publish it. I like Dr Berry and Ekburg. Bare bone basics. When you start adding in weird science from all these “published articles” you start getting closer to the type of diet you’re trying to stay away from. Our ancestors never knew of vitamins or minerals or the timing to eat. They ate the basics when they could. Meat vegetables and fruit that was in the area where they lived. Let’s not over complicate things to where we are going broke and gaining weight trying to eat all this crap that is found in studies.

The price of urolithin A is expensive. I bought 4 months using Thomas for a 15% discount and it cost $432.00

*So we can buy this Urolithin A directly as a supplement? What other useful substances come from pomegranates?*

I wonder how Urolitin A, or the lack of it, might have effects on Multiple Sclerosis. When you talk about the "blockage of synapsis" in the brain that sums things up pretty well (of course its the lesions deposited there that are blocking things, but still...).

What’s with all the comments on the sunflower lecithin emulsifier…it’s usually not an allergen; it’s much better then the genetically modified soy lecithin & it is the healthiest choice… It’s cold pressed and has many benefits for us…I read about it

Do you need to keep on taking it? Or is it good enough to take it 1 month per year?
