Ernie Ball VP JR 25k vs 250k pot comparison

There's really not much of a difference between the two.

The 25k seems to have a quicker sweep than the 250k. To me the 250k seems slower, allowing one to use The full range of the heel to toe position. On camera, it's not too noticeable.

25k vs 250k is not as much about the sweep, it's more about tone (suck). With normal (non-active) pickups, if you use a 25k pot and no effects, you'll lose a LOT of high end. The 250k in that case more closely mimics the volume pot in your guitar. Now if you use the same guitar but insert a pedal, the same holds true with the volume pedal in front of the effect pedal, but if you put the volume pedal AFTER your effect pedal (or any buffer, or in the loop of your amp), then you need to use a 25k pot since the impedance is orders of magnitude lower. 250k after a buffer or pedal has a bad sweep. Ultimately manufacturers shouldn't force us to choose. This is where EHX got it right, their pedal has a switch to change from low to high impedance so you can use it anywhere or in any configuration you want.

Sweep and effect are dependant on where you place the pedal in your chain! 250k at the front before all other pedals or 25k after your drive pedals works best! Advantage of placing after your drive pedals is the volume works on your drive tone. If you place it before drive tone; drive will also sweep from clean > dirt (which sounds naff)...

Howdy folks.
There is a BIG difference between the two pedals!

DO NOT OVER LOOK THIS!

25K is for ACTIVE pickups and will suck tone or volume from your PASSIVE pickup guitar.

The 250K is for PASSIVE pickup equipped guitars. 250k is the volume pot in your standard, non active pick up guitar.

why is this important to talk more about than just mention in passing?

ACTIVE pickups have their very own pre amps( thats why they are battery powered) which makes the signal more powerful, hence choosing a volume pedal with a smaller pot.

If you have standard pickups, i.e., non battery powered pickups, you will need to use the 250k pot to fully represent or replicate the range of your guitars volume pot.

what is the negative of using the 25k on a passive guitar?

No fx's would have been better! But good video!

I wonder if you put in a 500K pot, and how that would sound.

you don't have the string on the rear on the black pulley, might work better and string last longer if you put it on pulley.

So....I play with Active EMGs and another guitar with an Invader. Active vs passive. Which pedal do I do I need both? aka...do I need to look elsewhere to be able to use both guitars with the same pedal?

How challenging was it to switch the pots? Will a generic pot fit?
Thank you. I am thinking about switching one, in the opposite direction (high to low z)

Pretty new to guitar... could you explain the difference between "passive" and "active"? It confuses me

Your comments about the position of the switch were confusing and you didn't fully demonstrate the differences made when using the switch in one position or the other, except apparently whenever you may have remembered to mention it in passing. Has it occurred to you that a volume pedal has a much broader scope of applications than to merely do volume swells of chords? How about you play a lick and sustain the last note with the pedal, or play some rhythms & leads at varying volumes to show if the pedal has a consistent range and predictable response? This informs most of us of nothing at all, in terms of the real-world use of the pedal and in comparison to any other pedal. What exactly was your point in making this video?
