Relays are switches that open and close circuits electromechanically or electronically. They control one electrical circuit by opening and closing contacts in another circuit. When a relay contact is normally open (NO), there is an open contact when the relay is not energized. When a relay contact is Normally Closed (NC), there is a closed contact when the relay is not energized. In either case, applying electrical current to the contacts will change their state.

Relays are generally used to switch smaller currents in a control circuit and do not usually control power consuming devices except for small motors and Solenoids that draw low amps. Nonetheless, relays can "control" larger voltages and amperes by having an amplifying effect because a small voltage applied to a relay's coil can result in a large voltage being switched by the contacts.

Protective relays can prevent equipment damage by detecting electrical abnormalities, including overcurrent, undercurrent, overloads and reverse currents. In addition, relays are also widely used to switch starting coils, heating elements, pilot lights and audible alarms.

I love Relays.
You can do anything with them.
Logical circuits.
Secuencial circuits.
Combinational circuits.
They are so nice!!!!

Thank you for the great video. Needed an introduction to relays as I was checking out binary counters in relation to computer evolution, you helped me tons. Hope you find constructive feedback among the many "constructive" comments about your physical appearance. I work in a field with very few girls and often find it boring and limiting to have so much unusable feedback about my physical appearance rather than my content. I hope you have a good team supporting you in your passion !

Hello, does the Relay output the same power when actuated/closed as the input or power source?

hi I understand a relays with more than 4 points can be made to buzz like a motor..electromagnetic switching, can I know what frequency does it typically buzz or switch when wired to do just that

I have a question. What are the differences of glass relay and a non-transparent one?

Thank you for explanning like i'm five, so a relay is like an automated switch that is open when the circuit is not passing thro, and closes when a circuit passes. I'm I right?
