Are you a dedicated flight simmer who loves soaring through the digital skies in Microsoft Flight Simulator, but constantly finds yourself battling the monster known as stuttering? Have you painstakingly followed every tip and trick available online, only to find that you're still dealing with the same issues? If so, it's time to explore a tool called Process Lasso, which may provide the performance boost your flight simulation experience desperately needs.

What is Process Lasso?

Process Lasso, developed by Bitsum Technologies, is an advanced process priority optimization software. It's designed to enhance your PC's performance and stability by making adjustments to how your operating system manages its resources. It functions on the principles of ProBalance, a proprietary algorithm that intelligently adjusts the priority of running programs to prevent resource-hogging apps from slowing down your computer.

This software stands apart from the inbuilt task manager in your Windows system, as it offers a broader range of features. These include persistent CPU affinities and priorities, instance count limits, disallowed processes, and energy profile automation, to name a few. Process Lasso allows you to fine-tune how your computer allocates resources to its running processes, giving you more control over your system's behavior.

How Can Process Lasso Help Microsoft Flight Simulator Run Smoothly?

Given its ability to dynamically prioritize tasks, Process Lasso can be particularly useful for resource-intensive programs like Microsoft Flight Simulator. By setting the priority level of the flight simulator process to high, Process Lasso ensures that your computer allocates more resources to this task. Consequently, it could potentially decrease, or even entirely eliminate, the notorious stuttering issue that you might be facing.

The steps are relatively simple:

Open Process Lasso and navigate to the 'All processes' tab.
Right-click on the process and set its priority to 'High' under the Always drop down menu

If you want process lasso to do this automatically when you boot up Microsoft flight simulator that last step is important. Make sure you use the Always drop down menu!

Keep in mind that performance can vary based on individual hardware specifications, so while Process Lasso has solved stuttering issues for some users, results may not be universal.

Free vs. Pro Version of Process Lasso

Finally, do you need to pay for Process Lasso? While the ability to prioritize processes is available in the free version of Process Lasso, investing in the Pro version comes with some notable benefits. The Pro version offers additional advanced features such as process watchdog (which allows rules for automated actions based on thresholds), multi-profile CPU affinities, and power plan automation based on system activity. If you’re a power user looking to harness the full potential of your PC, these extra features may prove beneficial. Otherwise enjoy this free tool and it's potential benefits for free!

This worked for me. Setting CPU priority to high in task manager alone does not work in my case, it reverts back to normal quickly every time. Process Lasso babysits the setting when NSFS is runing and keeps the CPU priority at high. I like it.

IT WORKS! IT WORKS! IT WORKS! You saved my Live Twitch Streams! I was just reviewing yesterdays 5hr stream. NO jittery screen for "others" during the live stream & as seen in the VOD. I used to have to gain altitude to 1, 000 feet & the problem would go away. On my screen during the stream it's running totally smooth & silky with the occasional glitch. As you can imagine, coming in for a landing from +1000 down to +3 at times takes a lot of distance + time...who the heck wants to watch a jittering landing, eh?!

Opening MSFS through Addon Linker can be configured to accomplish the same thing by loading the process at high priority.

My SIM runs at priority high every time normally and on my system setting priority to normal removes most stutters. It's also on my system repeatable every time. Priority normal absolutely works best for me. High causes stutter. 13900k, 4090

Thanks mate, will test it out, do you need to keep the app running or just set and exit?

Very interesting. I just bought it and set MSFS to Always High in the CPU Priority. One question....Does Process Lasso needs to be left running while playing MSFS, or once set to Always High, the Process Lasso app can be closed?

Great video, what are you using to record your videos? And what frame settings are used to record? 30 or 60?

you can just do it in task manager, am I wrong ?

Great tip! Do you know if this also has a postive impact when using VR also? Thanks.

so wheres Ted Lasso?.... i got a i9 13900ks along a 3090 and 64 gb of ddr5 ram. I still get stutters...You can set priority through the task manager in the details tab. I'll give the free one a try.

We shouldn't have to do all these things.

I have played around with lasso to great extent and had some success with xplane 11 on my 8700k in the past. However! I was unable to gain any benefits with lasso and msfs on my new 7950x3d. I presume this is due to the more complicated nature in which these cpu’s need to run with their unique ccd architecture. If anyone has had great success with these new cpu’s, lasso, and msfs. I would love to hear from you and get some tips. PARTICULARLY when it comes to final approach/landing stutters. That is my only remaining issue after upgrading to a 7950x3d and a 4090 24gb.
I can fly over any scenery at any altitude in any aircraft. Can taxi at any airport including heaviest payware with zero stutters. But when I land. In the final 1000ft of decent, i get stutters.
