I actually use the video to show how NOT to do a pickoff. After about 50 viewings, I promised I would send comments. Just understand first that we incorporate rope access skills into rope rescue training.


1.) Use a long Prussik with carabiners on each end to connect you to the victim's rope. There is no need to invert in this whole video. None.
2.) Why invert at all if the Victim is in descent mode. There is no need for it. Looks cool and about it.
3.) Give a solid explanation why the instructor believes he has to be inverted (again) in order to lower the Victim on the rack. The reason he had to pull all the slack out of the rope was due to tensioning the pickoff strap while inverted (not good).
4.) Bad Victim placement as the Victim's body is sandwiched and bent over under the rescuer's ass.

What if the victim's hair is caught in their descender? How would you lower them onto your strap?
