In 2011, a tragic incident unfolded on a rural road in Quebec when a 200-kilogram (440-pound) black bear was struck by a car, sending it airborne into an oncoming SUV. The bear crashed through the windshield, hitting the driver and a passenger seated behind her before exiting through the rear window. The driver's boyfriend, who was in the front passenger seat, suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his upper body. Sadly, the bear did not survive the accident.
