*6 hours till class, first time behind on assignments and checking out what the heck this means after thinking/contemplating the subject since I saw it on Kitchen Nightmares a year ago at 2 in the morning*

According to my hand, the medium rare is near solid as a rock.

Someone taught me that tip years ago, and I still do it to this day, even though I have a wireless thermometer and all the gadgets to do it with, but I always use this method above all, plus you kind of develop a feel for it over the years :)

Yeah, that doesn't work so well for massage therapists hands. - they all feel like well done with each finger. Lol

Great, simple video. What he didn't mention is that your fingertips are supposed to be gently pushing together; if you squeeze too hard, it will always feel like medium well/well done.

wished it was as easy as when under that line pressure.

This and a thermometer is great for me because I'm colorblind. I can only tell a difference in color of the meat if it's well done or blue

Look at a quick one minute and five seconds video titled:

Easy way to check meat for doneness.

This video talks about grilled steak, but you can use this method no matter which way meat is cooked.

Hi, so I am a bodybuilder/cook and probably one of the few who bothers to exercise his hands. I am actively lifting so my muscles are pretty dense, I have asked a co-worker to feel my hand and she said my normal hand state feels like a well done steak. Is there a different method I could use without using a tool or feeling some else's hand?

hey... you should understand why we are using our palm for checking steak doneness.
when you press the steak with your finger, you definitely feel every doneness have different tense.
and we just want to memorize that feeling, so we can use our palm.
1. When measuring steak doneness by hand, your thumb should always be fixed at the same angle.
A straight angle is the most ideal.
2. And measure and press all steak doneness with a thermometer and compare it with your palm feeling.
3 It is necessary to clearly compare which finger feels the most similar to the medium and which finger feels the most similar to the rare something like that.
You don't have to be the same as the fingers in the video because all hands are different, so you have to make your own metrics.

I guess "well done" sounds better than "grilled truck tire."

Ok, so the answer I was looking for was just gently touch the fingers to the thumb, DO NOT use pressure. 💯
