Fitting Electronic Ignition - The Bodger's Guide

If there's an easy way, we'll find it. We wanted to fit electronic ignition to an Austin 1100, and H&H Ignition's product looked just the job. Simple and straightforward to fit, so we packed the old dizzy off to them and let them fit it for us (it's actually a simple case of unscrewing the old points and condensor, and using the same fixing points to slot in the new gizmos...) - after they reconditioned the unit, of course.
So when we say it couldn't be simpler, it couldn't...

Setting the timing from scratch traditionally is put engine at TDC then rotate dizzy till points are juust opening. Simple eh.
Unfortunately my Austin Somerset has no timing marks on any pulleys so only horribly approximate TDC from guessing sometime when both valves are closed in No1. Also no points on electronic ignition to help out. Result is we just cannot get it to run. Any ideas??
