In his first full budget since his appointment as Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt is expected to make a surprise announcement to help with the cost of childcare, part of a package of initiatives to get more people to return to the workforce.

Efforts to encourage the over-50s, the long-term sick and the disabled back into the workplace are also likely to form key planks of the budget.

Our Deputy Political Editor Sam Coates reports.

Get rid of Hunt. He destroyed the NHS and now he's going for the country.

A good start would be to vote out the government that has spent 13 years making the economy progressively worse.

Simple stop all the profit before service companies. Energy, health, transport and education should be a full reinvestment industry 90% of "profits" should be returned to the sector to improve and advance the services. In less than a decade we will have a booming economy again. Or we can continue to sell everything off to the highest bidder, watch the rich get richer while the rest of us starve and freeze.

Engineers have an engineering degree, which is just a little more difficult to obtain than learning how to file a piece of metal to tolerance.

Labour shortages are in reality "wage paying shortages". It's not that people aren't willing to work. It's that they aren't willing to be exploited. Hence the strikes. Companies aren't willing to pay people what they should be earning. Yet they are recording recording record profits!

Lower taxes and give people the incentive to get rich. British people are moving to Dubai to make money. Let the people eat!

When I was in UK. I saw empty boarded up streets under a constant grey sky, litter everywhere.
Homeless people sleeping in doorways. Opioid addicts out of their mind and women so drunk they urinated on the streets. It's a sad declined country

Make so foods like beef and chicken free! Because if everyone is living out a tin there won't be a workforce left

Really rich folk who can pump 50K a year into pensions can save paying more 50K gross and get smashed back into your box with 40%

The worst mistake France made is to provide such economy when it is better to stay jobless. Don't make such a mistake. The psychic state of people is better when there is still a will to improve oneself and work rather than stay at home. Now France is straggling in the worst ever situation with strikes because no one want to work
