Christopher Cross ~ Ride Like The Wind 1979 Disco Purrfection Version

This guy came on like a hurricane in the spring of 1980. Christopher Geppert joined his first band, Flash in 1971. They opened for bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin garnering lots of attention but no record action. Chris quit the band in 1973 for a solo career and in 1978 secured a contract with Warner Brothers. Seldom does an unknown artist get the full out all star treatment he got from his label who enlisted Michael McDonald, Don Henley, JD Souther and Nicolette Larson to participate in the project.

However when the album was finished, WB held back the single release until they felt that there was nothing new being released, which ended up being January of 1980. The first single, "Ride Like The Wind" went to #2 for four weeks unable to disconnect Blondie's "Call Me" from the top spot, even with Michael McDonald on background vocals.

The second single, "Sailing" did just that, moving right up to the #1 spot and powering the eponymously titled LP to 5X platinum status and earned him a sweep of the 1981 Grammy Awards taking Best Album, Record, Song of The Year (Sailing) and Best New Artist. It was the first time in record history that an artist took the top four awards ever.

After losing my job as a steelworker outside Pittsburgh, I moved to Houston, and with one of my best friends, Eugene, we got a job together, and this song came on while we cruised the 610 loop and 'Ride Like The Wind, ' became our anthem! Up, Up and away we began, the world was our Pearl we believed, and we never forgot the moment when we first heard this song!!! Just a moment in time!!!

My late friend Guido ( rest in peace) played this song after telling Him I ended My first relationship.
He put on a smile, and told Me this is for You!
He had an amazing sound-system.
We used to pick music fm His collection, and try to surprise eachoter.
Not so much thinking about My ex.
More missing My childhood friend when listening to this song.
All a healthy, peacefull 2024

I was on a Greyhound bus traveling from the East coast to San Diego. This song came on my radio, I unplugged the earphones and cranked the volumn up. The passengers quieted down and became lost in their own thoughts. When the song was over, everyone applauded. A GOLDEN MEMORY.

The seventies and eighties had some of the best songs ever. Listening to these songs always brings me back to a happier time and place. I will never stop listening to these songs. Told my wife here I can see us now when we turn 80, cruising down the road, top down and the music cranked. Nothing like it in the world.

I was born in 1979. As a black woman, I still love soft rock from the 80s!

This song makes me miss my mom. She is mostly responsible for my early musical influence. She had a real ear for music. Lost her in 2019. RIP, mom. Love ya, Miss ya.

It is the night
My body's weak
I'm on the run
No time to sleep
I've got to ride
Ride like the wind
To be free again
And I've got such a long way to go (such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
I was born the son of a lawless man
Always spoke my mind with a gun in my hand
Lived nine lives
Gunned down ten
Gonna ride like the wind
And I've got such a long way to go (such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
Gonna ride like the wind
Accused and tried and told to hang
I was nowhere in sight when the church bells rang
Never was the kind to do as I was told
Gonna ride like the wind before I get old
It is the night
My body's weak
I'm on the run
No time to sleep
I've got to ride
Ride like the wind
To be free again
And I've got such a long way to go (such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
And I've got a long way to go (such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
