How to change default paste options in OneNote

In this short tutorial, I'll show you how to change the default pasting option in OneNote. For example, you could change the default format from "keep source formatting" to "keep text only". I personally prefer text only because it's simpler and easier to edit.

The procedure is as follow:
1) Copy & paste.
2) Then, select the option you want to be the default.
3) There underneath the options, you could set the default format.

Thank you! I can't believe I missed that there. Other info talks about 3 dots in the upper right and there are no 3 dots. Thank you

Even on Microsoft Answers there is no explanation of it, just some multi step instructions of changing options that are not avaiable in most Onenote versions. Thank you.

Hey! Do you know how to make specific hotkeys? so for instance "ctrl+h" to type out "resident was called, and guest was let up"

Wow, that is very convoluted. Why not also put this in the options panel?!

If I copy-paste from OneNote-Web to OneNote-Desktop, the formatting gets changed, although I select 'keep source formatting', and although I set the default copy-paste options accordingly. But as OneNote is a Microsoft product, I'm not really surprised, that it doesn't work, as it should.

The option after pasting does not show up for me.

In case anyone is wondering how to do this in the Windows 11 preinstalled OneNote version:
This "Set As Default Paste" option apparently only appears when pasting links, since this is how to pull up the paste menu only. This does not appear when pasting text or tables.

Once again the standard Ctrl-V paste command stopped pasting copied OneNote paragraph and page links. I finally found a solution to this problem. Instead of simply clicking Ctrl-V to paste, do this. Rt-Clk where you want to paste and select the paste option named "Keep Source Formatting" or "Merge Formatting".

I have onenote for win10 that does not make it possible. Do you know of any alternatives?

Is there another way to do this? The little clipboard icon on the bottom doesn't show up for me and I'm copying and pasting using the keyboard shortcuts.
