To make this calculation simpler, I want to reduce the number of unknown variables. To do this, I’ll subtract Equation 2 from Equation 1. However, to fully eliminate one of the variables, I took the coefficient of 𝐼1 (25) from Equation 2 and divided it by the coefficient of 𝐼 1 in Equation 1 (0.4). This gave me 62.5. Then, I multiplied the entire Equation 1 by 62.5. This allowed me to align the coefficients of 𝐼 1 in both equations so that, when I subtract one from the other, therefore, *𝐼 1* cancels out completely. This leaves us with a single variable to solve for in the calculation.
