I would just dispute the way you say Rijeka was never a part of Croatia until 1945. By that logic Venice was never part of Italy until 1945 either, or at least 1861...

I mean you do have the Kingdom of Croatia credited in the small table that pops up, but the short explanation is kind of misleading (although admittedly catchy)...

My mother was part of the exiles of the Second World War who were forced to leave Fiume in 1947 because it had become the Yugoslav dictatorship rest in peace mother I miss you so much

Was it easy to communicate with the locals? Just wondering how many people speak English in Rijeka.
I plan to visit in July.

Market is open every day but it is just a shadow of market just 10 or 20 years ago.
