Why are so many people with no sense of humor watching SNL sketches? The joke in this skit is about how people talk about their best friends and it's funny because it takes a larger than life figure like Putin and humanizes him by inserting him in this trope. The main aim of this skit is not to insult Russians or to make a political statement. It's comedy.
