Heraclitus

Heraclitus of Ephesus (fl. late 6th century B.C.) was a rather sour Greek philosopher with pyromaniacal tendencies. In this little introductory video, Dr. Foxwede details his main doctrines: his idea of the flux, the unity of opposites, and the logos. (We have had to omit here his views on natural law, the gods and his ethics - this is perhaps for another time!)

Our beloved pyromaniac of antiquity.
Shrouded his writings in obscurity.
Known as “The Obscure” by modernity.
Offering no clear definition of Logos for posterity.
A divine ordering principle of reality?
Of the dim-witted masses he had aversions.
Constrained by beliefs, conformity, and diversions.
Blind to Logos - unable to wake from slumber.
A single man could be worth ten thousand their number.
Heraclitus was a self-taught recluse.
Found academic study or teachers of little use.
Believing that Logos can be found from inner contemplation.
Everything in a state of flux his inspiration.
Could the world be an ever-living fire?
Of all the elements none could aspire higher.
For fire is needed in the eternal cycle of destruction and creation.
Any apparent harmony of opposites only concealing strife.
Strife taking a role in the cosmic justice of death and life.
Everything changes – and though it would be nice.
You cannot step into the same river twice.

Also, just a tip, whilst I really enjoy the minimalist titling of your videos you should maybe think about adding more to the title, like a summation of the philosopher in question's ideas or maybe just "History of Philosophy with Eldon Foxwede" or "Fancy Philosophy with Dr. Foxwede", something like that, play up the comedic angle a bit, 'cause you deserve way more views than you're getting.
