If Nintendo wants to make the Switch's successor successful, there are four points they MUST adhere to!

1. Reverse compatibility with Switch games. If the Switch 2, or whatever they call it, isn't compatible with the Switch 1's games, most people will just stick with their original Switches.
2. Use the same NSO mainframe. Nintendo can NOT go back to square 1 in terms of bringing their classic games to modern consoles! Bring all the NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy, and GBA games on the Switch 1 over to the Switch 2, and also make it possible to play GameCube games on it
3. Keep it a hybrid. Nintendo has a good thing going with the Switch being both a console and handheld system. They HAVE to keep it!
4. And this is the most important part, REDESIGN THE JOYCONS SO THEY DON'T DRIFT!

Themes (UI) & themes (tunes) definitely need to be in the next system. The silent bland menus are just ridiculous when compared to their former systems

Remember the chime that played whenever you turned your DS on? Did you know that it changes when on the day you have logged as your birthday? Where's something like that for Switch?? (Not the biggest feature, I know, but still it's better than the nothing we have now)

What I missed on the 3ds is that if you buy a game they have their own sound effects when you select it. For example rune factory, you can hear both protagonist say rune factory and then there's also monster hunter 4u it has it's own distinct mh sound when you select it.

One thing that I do like about the Switch and physical media is that the game is all on the cartridge (usually), I buy some games digitally, but memory does fill up and disc have been feeling less useful nowadays since it still has to install on the hard drive of my PS5 for example.
Sure faster loading times are nice, but since many modern games are larger in size, I’m running out of memory and sometimes have to juggle what I have downloaded at one time.

As for what I want in a new Switch, I think they’d stick with the Switch concept, but backwards compatibility would be nice. I do assume they’d keep the NSO classic games as a standard going forward with continuing to add onto the existing libraries as well as keep your cloud saves of it. It’d be disappointing if they didn’t at least have that.

If they want to succeed, add backwards compatibility. If they want to stumble, make it incompatible with past Switch purchases. If they want to fail, make it something other than a hybrid.

I’d love to see an IR sensor built into the top of the next-gen joycon somehow, so that it can actually be pointed at the TV. A sensor could be built into the dock. This would help solve problems some games have with gyro aiming, and I feel like it would be worth it considering how many Switch games use it.

There needs to be a good reason to get the new switch but also not alienate the current switch users

1. Backwards compatability
2. Hardware stronger than the ps4 pro at least
3. Hybrid continues
4. Games

6 years in and still no background music on Switch menu or eShop. I love and hate Nintendo for various reasons.

The only things I ask for a new Switch is to be backwards compatible with the old Switch including all digital content with the ability to carry that digital content forward to the new system.

My hope is that the console innovates the right way. Maybe like a handheld that is more powerful and a dock with hardware to upscale and improve frame rate. The dock having its own processor etc.

I want the new catridges to be cubes. Just a bunch of cubes. Not practical, but I want it.

I don't care what it is, just something that I can insert into a Nintendo console will always make me happy. I will gladly even pay more for my games if it means I get physical copies. Digital games bother me sometimes, but only on Nintendo consoles. Other devices idc, but it just feels so magical inserting a cartridge or anything into a Nintendo console

Digital only would be a problem, I agree. I think one of the biggest problems would be if it weren’t backwards compatible! Music and themes? I couldn’t care less. I feel like that’s the majority of what you guys talked about in this video… Also surprised that you guys didn’t discuss the possibility of them doing something very Nintendo, and trying to come up with a whole new control scheme or some other gimmick. I feel that that is a much bigger problem and is extremely likely

The whole industry is trending toward a stronger emphasis on backward compatibility.. It could be fatal for Nintendo to ignore that. Having a gigantic library of software is the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series and Valve Steamdeck’s biggest asset — The huge Switch library is the only thing standing in the way of Steam Deck completely dominating the hybrid market …

Not much honestly, just put a Tegra Orin in there (which it most likely will have anyway) and Nintendo is all set to dominate the next 8 years. The one additional thing I can imagine how they can expand the hybrid concept (and something that hasn't been done by the competition before) is by adding some sort of mobile phone connectivity to your Switch 2 where you can leave your Switch docked at home and stream your games to whatever phone you have and play there.

I love the switch but I’m concerned about the successor. Games like MK8, Smash ultimate, BOTW, ACNH and others Im probably forgetting are all considered among the best in their respective franchises. It’s going to be tough to top them. If it doesn’t start strong… could be Wii U 2.0
