About the chant:
At his coronation as king of France, Louis IX bound himself by oath to behave as God’s anointed, as the father of his people and feudal lord of the King of Peace. Other kings had done the same, of course. Louis was different in that he actually interpreted his kingly duties in the light of faith. After the violence of two previous reigns, he brought peace and justice.

The axis of the song centers around Louis' appeal to his barons, who have doubts and excuses for not accompanying him. However, the king will contest his objections one by one. At the end of the song the king will succeed in convincing his vassals to accompany him, and then they embarked for Egypt.

Louis deserves credit for extending justice in civil administration. His regulations for royal officials became the first of a series of reform laws. He replaced trial by battle with a form of examination of witnesses and encouraged the use of written records in court.

Hello. I'm not writing this in response to this new video in particular-- but I've been through a very hard time the last 6 months. So many times, the music on this channel has literally been what has enabled me to continue on with daily chores and instilled courage. In particular, the Templar playlist is what does this-- not really sure why, but it's good background music for working, expressing pain and renewing courage. Also, I am a cradle Roman catholic and have been inquiring into Orthodoxy since Feb 2021, but personal circumstances are making it impossible to continue further. I can't tell you how much it means to have you put this kind of stuff up here since I technically a Catholic but no longer belong anywhere. It's just a comfort.
