I was searching for this. Tranks! If i buy a Mazda CX3 will be 2.0 2wd. If i want a 4x4 SUV, will be a Vitara 1.4t 4x4. Both are nearly same price, now I have to think well about.

win for the Mazda CX-3 because same engine but less weight for the CX-3, and maybe newer algorithms in the CX-3

This hasn't been my experience at all with my cx-3. In snow and off road I've never spun out that much. Not once

so the way i see it, mazda engineers arent trying to make the AWD system suitable for offroading or anythign like that, its simply there to tick the checkbox of being able to send SOME torque to the rear. I think it really only helps on acceleration from stopping at the lights, to stop chirping and wheelspin on hard acceleration. Apparently the mazda system starts off in awd 50/50 lock every time whereas many others start off in 2wd and introduce the rears whne slip is detected. Its just a more sensible approach for the use of an electromagnetic coupling (cheaper simpler and more common) which isnt as god as hydraulic or worm gear n cam systems in terms of reliability and clamping force. The real downsie is that it appears they really havent focused on any decent kind of brake traction control, it seems the diffs just spin and spin, and if both have no traction, well it just brakes one side in the hope that things might get better further down the road...

Turn on the wipers so Mazda algorithms will send power to the rear as wiper on is a key sensor.

Mazda makes the worst AWD systems and the newer CX-9 it continues. Even Motor Trend longterm test said the rear wheels do not do much on the CX-9.
