I guess that the point is not just the sheer power, but also how much time you have to invest in practice in order to use the weapon efectivelly. Eventhough the english warbow could put out more power and faster, the crossbow still saw ample use due to it's easier learning curve. There is probably the same issue with the sling.

I feel against armor the sling because with an arrow, it has to get a dig, but the sling delivers an immediate hit no dig needed in my opinion of course

Im going with sling if you are skilled enough. You can always have one in your pocket, ammo is all around you, and you can hit harder the stronger you get. Even the smallest bows are 4 feet long, arrows are also big and not cheap, and once you are shooting arrows at full draw, if you want to hit harder, you have to get a new bow.

Simple answer is history has proven bow to win. Easier to master than sling. More accurate. Can be used in dense formations. Can be used behind cover (arrow slits).
