I appreciate your experience, expertise, and detailed answer. I think I'll check into an Osprey. Thanks.

Thanks very much for this Jonathan. I'm an artist who recently discovered the joy of drawing with fountain pens. I just bought a 3776 EF and I love its spidery line (the line weight is 0.24mm). I also found a Pilot Custom 74 SF at a good price so I bought that as well. It draws with a slightly heavier line (0.32mm at its thinnest) and the two make a nice team. Do you think the 3776 SF would add anything significant to the party? I also have a second question... I'm looking for an inexpensive alternate to the 3776 EF for sketching outside the studio, a pen I won't cry about if it goes missing.. Any suggestions? I tried the Platinum Preppy 02 but at 0.3mm, it's heavier than the 3776 EF. Ditto the ECO EF and Lamy EF (both about 0.36 to 0.4mm so even heavier.) I also tried a Noodler's Ahab but it's a definite 0.4mm or more. Then I tried them with the nibs in reverse writing which produced a finer line, but is reverse writing safe for the nibs long term? Thank you again for doing these videos - they're very helpful and it's great being able to reach out with questions!

Nice review. Do you think the ultra extra fine nib could replace a dip pen for drawing?

Btw, what did Maurice Sendak draw with? Was it a dip pen?
