That's another problem with games as a service is that devs have to work on the same game for years and never get to move on to a new thing. Working on the same thing gets boring, working on something new is exciting.

It's sad because the industry has lost the heart and passion that is required to make good games imo. Everything nowadays is just about how much money they can squeeze us for while doing the bare minimum for innovation and just basic things. It's so sad.

It's this "live service" BS greedy executives keep pushing on developers thats killing gaming. Expecting gamers to spend hundreds of hours grinding repetitive, low effort gameplay filled with predatory micro transactions is the reason why gaming is in the state that's in now. Get the corporate suits out of the room and let the creators create

One day i'm going to tell my kids how there was this thing called magazines that people got their video game news from and how Bungie was once one of the best devs around. Shortly after they will probably put me in a home because they will think I have lost it.

AAA development is headed for a crash. It’s gotten too expensive. The race for perfect visuals, for bigger and bigger scope, for games that never end or that players will play for years. Everything has to be the next Skyrim or GTA otherwise it’s disappointing. And all the while costs just keep going up and up.

Who’s the one major publisher / console maker who doesn’t really have these sad stories? Nintendo. And it’s not a coincidence. They got out of the AAA arms race years ago and it allows them to control costs and actually retain talent. Sure maybe they’ll never have a console that can run GTA 10 at 8K with ultra ray tracing, but what they can do is pump out quality games that don’t take 10 years and get everyone fired.

Corporate greed, taking more and more in bonuses, all while going for the minimal effort for max profit, and failing miserably. Then executives fold and run with the money

Gaming is like the modern day Imperium: bloated, inefficient, and unorganized

Easy solutions:
- stop giving these companies the time of day
- find other, better hobbies
- only play older games
- get some friends together and play tabletops like DnD, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, World of Darkness, etc. You can literally find the older, better versions online for free.

I started doing hiking; improved health, no social media, listening to the sounds of the woodlands, fixed sleep cycle.

Let’s be real. Bungie is one trailer away from all their players saying let them cook and bungie is back. They do this time and time again. That playerbase is lost.

The current state of video games just makes me want to create my own games that much more so I guess that’s one way to motivate new creators.

What used to be considered “successful” for businesses and upper management is now considered subpar, they keep taking and taking.

Causes that come to mind include gross mismanagement, incorrect expectations, poor preparation, and rampant consolidation.

I'm glad I got to be a gamer in my prime in the 90's and early 00's, those were the good times.
