I made a mahjong compass using a template that I glued to a piece of foamcore.

Thanks for making this video! I just ordered it through your link… I would never have been able to do it otherwise.

Before this product? I used absolutely nothing! That's why it's so interesting to me ☺ thanks for the video!

This is very cool. We've been using homemade versions of this in the Seattle club for years but have something more substantial is great. Thanks for sharing!

Basically an auto table without the automatic parts.

Just discovered this thing on Amazon Japan yesterday and have been coveting it

Glad to see you back! And thanks for doing these.
Without a compass, I’ve just been trying to keep them arranged in a nice ‘compass-like’ square. Lol.

Hopefully the vaccine is successful and we can all get back to playing Mahjong with strangers again soon.

Great to see another video. Before the AMOS compass, we used nothing. Just placed the tiles in the "sort-of" center, and used the round indicator to indicate who was the dealer. Not the easiest way, but it worked. Since I'm not very lucky, I went ahead and used your link to MJ Stars and once there used their email contact page to let them know I was interested in buying one. I also mentioned Riichi Mahjong Central. Thanks again for your videos!

Yeah I made one out of cardboard using the same dimensions and it was pretty useful. I hope I could get the real thing! Thanks for the review.

When I got my junkmat from amazon japan, i saw the Amos compass but unfortunately they were out of stock. So what we did when we played (pre-pandemic) was we made our own "compass" from heavy cardstock and cut slots for the riichi sticks to go in or just not use anything at all. When we did have the cardstock "compass" it always slipped so we'd be extra careful when placing the first row of tiles. The weight of the first row was usually enough to hold the "compass" in the center.

Super useful little thing!

Good video! Right now I don't use anything, I just imagine there's a square in the middle of table. This is really useful!

We are using a piece of cardboard cut to size with the seat winds wrote on it. It’s kinda beat up but still works

I was using paper to indicate winds. I hope I win!

What are the measurements for the compass?

Does it work well on large tiles? Mine is 36x28x21mm

Have you seen any 3 player compasses on your adventures?

Since I'm the guy teaching all of my friend groups Richii, I am usually just managing the center of the table with everyones' discards lol. I would set a group of dice, usually 4 to have a square, in the center and just manage discards and dealing out tiles.
The struggle is real, so having this nifty tool would be so dope!

Has a winner been picked yet? 😂 (yes I still kept track of this video since I commented)

This looks like a great item to help induct the friends I manage to entice into the light of riichi!!

Do you rotate the compass (I guess that just answers it) as east moves around? I love an organized mat, and the spaces for the riichi stick plus the dice would make me very happy. It's never easy to convince everybody (especially new players) of the need for order (in the absence of an auto-table's center panel), so this would be an additional nudge in that direction. Count me in, please, for the picking of the winner!
