It seems to me that, so long as housing demand (which is inelastic) exceeds supply, the price of housing will tend to expand to hoover up as much household income as possible. So people will never feel well off, regardless of how cheap everything else is.

You nailed it Mr. Hannan!! We are in the customs union but not in EU or ESM...etc. and have no say on our trade policy. Hopefully Turkey will also leave the customs union. So anyone in UK trying to stay in the CU has no idea about trade.

Yep. Stay in the customs union, problems arise, then hold another vote to go back into the EU.

They know that if we leave the CU and SM then rejoining the EU later becomes very difficult to achieve politically and would likely make no sense economically.

true, if you leave the EU you will lose the EU trade deals even if you stay in the customs union, it is bad. However what is worst is to leave the customs union and the single market because you will lose a big part of your bigger market the EU, you will lose all the trade agreement. You might want to replace it with a trade deal with the US and become their vassal state., go luck to do that quickly enough.
