Beautiful Jazz Chords That You Never Played

Learning Drop2 and Shell-voicings is a great way to learn some systems of jazz chords and a lot of inversions all at once. But if you only think in systems you forget to explore what chords you can come up with that are not in those systems. That's what I explore in this Jazz Chords Lesson.

In this video, I am going to talk about some of the guitar jazz chords that I like to use and find really beautiful which I don't really hear people use a lot, probably because they don't fit in the systems. And they are not even that difficult to play, so there is no need to not check them out!

Beautiful chords! I personally know them all, they are beautiful as they are but the magic happens when you play them one after another in such tastefully made progressions!

Its somewhat amusing that just playing the 'pretty dominants alone' can sound almost dissonant, but when played as part of a 2-5-1 progression, they fit in really nicely, Thanks Jens,

Very nice video. Some of these chords seem so apparent now that you've shown them to us, but I never thought to play them!

Fascinating, lots of grips here I use having stumbled on them exploring what is under or proximate to my fingers. I love it when you validate my knocking around with some real theory... Thank You! 😎

Really digging these chords, I know a few of these but still it was nice to reaclamatize myself with them, and nice to see the Sheraton get some action instead of the regular Ibanez👍

Hey Jens, big fan of your videos. If I could offer a suggestion, I’d say that I think your viewers would really appreciate a slightly longer demo of you playing at the beginning (or end) of each video. To illustrate an example of what the topic of teaching translates to in terms of actual playing. Always helps to hear the instruction consolidated into music! Even just about 30 seconds would be pretty helpful I think.

Nice! These are all good ukulele/tenor banjo chords too.

Hi Jens ! What voicings would you use for medium swing, hardbop, bebop styles ? I am guessing “shell voicings” is it ??

Grey vid Jens. The entire time you were playing I kept thinking this sounds like Holdsworth then you bring him up right at the end. Awesome stuff as always.
