In this video I give an update to the Comic Book Index for the month of August.

It was nice to be able to compare the numbers with GoCollects index as well. It seems like we are seeing similar things.

What do you guys think? How do you see comics performing right now?

Hope you guys enjoy the video

Im 50 yrs old. I was fortunate enough to have a local shop nearby me in the mid 1980s. Cover prices were 60cents. I specifically remember a book behind the glass case. It stayed there for a long time. That issue was asm #2 and it was in a mint/near mint range. The price was $120. I wonder who ended up with that jackpot, it sure wasnt me. Keep collecting!

I’m thrilled. I’m a collector, not an investor, so for me these low prices just mean I can buy more of what I want.

Great vid yet again Swag. Index's doesnt affect me because I never sell and have confidence in the long term and 🤣🤣 My feelings are that some new collectors who came in during the comic boom of 2021 / covid years etc have lost a bit of confidence on some of the books they bought and are looking to bail before they think it gets worse as the years go on, meanwhile I am gladly picking up some decent items that are down in the last couple of years which i think will have longevity :) Most of all I just enjoy everything I have, so never really flipping anything :D Greetings from Scotland :D

I’m here for it. I’m in it for the books, not the spec. But blue chips continue to break records, and a lot of sellers will use that to inflate their lower grades.

I'm a hockey sports card collector that used to collect silver age comics in the 1980's -1990's. I had a lot of key books back then. Was shocked to see the prices now! I remember a chance at a nice copy of AF 15 for $300 in 1978, couldn't afford it. Just recently started buying again, picked up ASM #39, 50 and 100. I'll probably sell off my cards to get comics, Lol.

Sorry, my bad. I had a 3-week vacation in August. Will try to make up for it this month.

Time to buy what you couldn't buy 2 years ago!

Bought my own copy of FF 48 in a grade I was very happy with for a price I thought was very reasonable. Whatever's happening with the market right now, I hope it keeps up. I have more keys to buy.

Thanks Mickey - reflects the overall behavior I'm seeing in the marketplace. Going to be interesting to see what happens when The Fed drops interest rates later this month. We probably won't feel its effects for months but I think the market has bottomed out and am buying whatever big personal grails (keys) I can afford. I'm bullish on comics with MCU righting the ship and James Gunn will do a better job than the previous DCU. He can't do any worse right? (I hope!). Appreciate all you do for the community.

Hey, it’s great news for me! Several comics that I couldn’t afford now are in range. Case in point Avenger’s 8 down by less than half it was a few years ago! Score!!!

Mickey, thanks for the August updates. Especially like your key takeaways. I'm heading to the Baltimore Comic Con and may consider buying my grails there. We shall see. 😊

Every time there has been an upturn in the index people have seen it as a positive sign, then it turned out to be very temporary. As prices decline it will indeed be a good time for collectors to add to their collections who have the discretionary money to do so, but for investors, I believe the time to start buying is after the index has plateaued for at least six months. While the curve has been slowly flattening, I believe there is still a ways to go before reaching that milestone.

Buy! Buy! Buy! Of course this is a great thing. Getting all sorts of stuff that I'm way glad I didn't overpay for 2 years ago.

The market is slow. I think the reason is sellers have their books priced way above FMV. I'm guessing sellers have too much invested into the key books and don't want to lose money. Super high grade bronze and high grade silver of mega keys will always sell if priced right. I'm hunting for Tales 39 or Journey 83 right now. Every book I see is thousands above Go Collect or Covrprice.

It's great, comics I couldn't afford before I can now afford. Here in Australia, interest rates are relatively high and this is causing defaults on loans and owners selling their properties for less than they bought them for because they can't afford the repayments. But for those with investments like money held by superannuation funds, this is good news because higher interest rates mean greater earnings. So there are winners and losers just like with comics values.

I pulled out of collecting books mostly, I'm not getting rid of my collection, it's just that the economy lately has been punching me in the nuts, so I had to stop for a bit and focus on important things in my life, but still a collector.

I think its really hard for people that are really into comics to be objective, on the market. Just like real estate agents don't want to see the writing on the wall that prices are up and people are not buying. If people keep loosing money more and more people are going to bail the hobby and just hoddle long term holds.
