Has The Comic Market Found The Floor? Silver & Bronze Age Index Update For September

In this video I share with you guys the SEPTEMBER updates for the Silver and Bronze age index - on the one hand its not looking good, but on the other it feels like the clearing in the woods is starting to show itself. We all know the current state of the economy has us in a recession and people claim that comics are recession proof...but the current trends don't show us that as we are on the decline still. But if you look at the historic trendlines we are starting to fall in line to where we should be, which means we could now be close to the bottom. I think the next couple months we will see more capitulation but by November and December I think we will start to right the ship. What do you guys think? Do you think comics are going to zero? Will things continue to go down in value? Is inflation preventing collectors from buying comic books? Let me know what you think.

One strong advantage of your index is that it doesn't just focus on the highest graded outlier copies of these comics. Too many people watch the outliers.

Since you have some much data it would be helpful to add a trendline to each of the indexes for the historical data. Looks like we're soon close to historical if you chart a 01/18 - 12/20 line. Would be a great indicator of when the market gets oversold in the next few months.

Thanks for doing this. I appreciate the attempt to provide an objective measure. FOMO is dead. Now we have FOPTM (Fear of Paying too Much) that is reducing the number of buyers right now.

If the economy takes us into layoffs…. People will be selling assets. For now comics (assets) are an inflation hedge and good place to keep your dollar. Let’s see where we are in 6-12 months

This matches with my sales August through September, as well. I sold a lot more Bronze & Copper Age than Silver, & most of what I sold that was Silver Age was lower grade, curio items that aren't big movers. Think Amazing Adventures, Astonishing Tales, lots of anthology titles & a surprising amount of DC House of Mystery 🤔

X-Men always sells, but I sold a lot more than usual. All early Claremont era.

Only a few one-off modern books to report. Black Cat covers, some variants, & there's been a lot of interest in Blade related stuff. Also a few Hulk #256 raw copies (I'm saving my higher grade ones to send to CGC once the hurricane cleanup is over).

As a serious news head I respectfully disagree. Any stability will be very short lived because after the Christmas holidays the market will begin its nosedive. Inflation and a long lasting recession will grip the US economy which means the time begin buying will be next spring assuming you have the means to do so.
