Pharisees and Sadducees

The Pharisees and the Sadducees are two important groups of Jewish leaders in the New Testament. Most of the Pharisees and Sadducees not only rejected Jesus and his teachings, they rejected each other. The Pharisees were experts on the law and believed in a strict adherence to important interpretations of the law as a path to holiness. The Sadducees, who were a priestly class, focused on the Temple as the path to holiness and rejected both the resurrection of the dead and the afterlife.

The Sadducees didn’t believe in the resurrection, that’s why they were sad, you see

Pharisees put the Oral Law and their doctrines over God's Law.

Jesus taught God's Law as the ultimate authority. This is the big difference

The Pharisees taught the "oral law" which was their interpretation of the written law. These are the "traditions" that Jesus spoke of.

Jesus never contradicted the written law of Moses. He argued and debated with the Pharisees in regards to the oral law that was being held over the people. This was a sin according to Deuteronomy 4:2.

For the Sadducees, since they rejected the idea of an afterlife, what was the purpose of holiness and the temple if there was nothing after you died anyway? Did they believe that their holiness & connection to YHWH was directly tied to wealth & good fortune here on earth?

They (the Pharisees) taught people how to read and write and even those Romans who loved other things at that time and even now.

Did the pharisees ever add laws into any OT books?

If you look at the 1st Century Jerusalem.

It's absolutely astounding that Christ's Followers would end up into the Largest Religion on the Planet.

So many different groups and different teachers.

But only one Christ.

as to those saying the bible does not support an afterlife, then know that the new testament talks about the 'Kingdom of God' to come. It talks about how the people that were at Jesus's time could enter the kingdom of God (i.e. saying their is paradise and life after death). However, i haven't finished reading the old testament.. but as of far, I am only up to the history parts of the book (which don't talk about the afterlife much). But i am pretty confident that the old testament talks abt the afterlife.

If this detailed information is not stated in the Bible, where do you get this info from. What reliable source. I'm not disputing, just want to know. Thanks.
